In the middle of Duisburg's Inner Harbour, artist Stella Flatten's project Die Halde/ The Dump invites people to take part in a collaborative process of digging in an excavation site created for the exhibition Between Invention and Capture. The physical activity of digging – as an act of participation and a tool for reflection – puts us in touch with ourselves, our history, memory and immediate surroundings. In the workshops with the artist, we embark on a joint search for buried meanings and enter into a dialogue about how the hidden can be made visible. Objects will also be collected during the exhibition and buried together in a time capsule at the end of the project.
