Arhun Aksakal: EUROGATE
Address
Garten der Erinnerungen
Zugang vom Philosophenweg
47051 Duisburg
Parkour evolved as a sport in France in the late 1980s and was inspired by training methods used in the military. The sport has since evolved into a globally networked community that regards running a parkour together as a way of appropriating and asserting themselves in the urban realm. Relying on his experiences in this scene as a basis, the artist Arhun Aksakal employs parkour in his works as an approach to and method for a poetic and critical exploration of the urban landscapes of the Ruhr region.
The performance EUROGATE in the Garden of Memories by Dani Karavan combines parkour, dance and acrobatic movement and – inspired by the architecture of Duisburg's inner harbour – creates threshold states in public space through repetition, exhaustion and ecstasy.
