Sustainability

In a world where resources are becoming ever scarcer and climate change is an increasingly significant challenge, it is vital that everyone does their bit to protect the environment and climate. Urbane Künste Ruhr is aware of this responsibility and has made sustainability a central aspect of its work.

We develop the content of our projects in close cooperation with regional, national and international artists and partners. We work specifically to ensure that artistic works are produced sustainably and can continue to circulate and be shown in the Ruhr area after their presentation.

Our projects engage in dialogue with the region and its inhabitants in a variety of ways. We develop them together with local partners in order to explore, recreate and revitalise public space. These networks also have a lasting effect and strengthen local and regional structures.

Our Green Rider – a guide to sustainable art production – provides our artists, cooperation partners and service providers with guidance and assistance in taking sustainability criteria into account when developing artistic projects. We also apply sustainability criteria in our award and tendering procedures in order to become more sustainable in our procurement practices.

We are trying to set further examples with far-reaching measures in our immediate working environment – e.g. converting our vehicle fleet to electric vehicles, using 100% green electricity in our offices and our own photovoltaic system, and sustainable cleaning. As part of Kultur Ruhr GmbH, we are also involved in the comprehensive evaluation of a company-wide carbon footprint, from which further meaningful measures for our work will be continuously derived.
