Together with the Museum für Fotokopie (M.F.F.) and the Kunstmuseum Mülheim an der Ruhr, the Grand Snail Tour transforms Synagogenplatz, around the Hayek Fountain, into an open workshop of reproduction and transformation. A mobile copying station invites school classes, museum visitors, and passers-by to deconstruct and reconstruct the fountain through drawing, photography, and copying technologies. Beyond its form, the fountain’s role as a public gathering space is explored: Who does this place belong to? How is it used? And what other possibilities might it hold?
With free admission to the Kunstmuseum from 14 h onwards, mobile educational activities, and the collections of the museum and the Grand Snail Tour, the boundaries between inside and outside, museum and city begin to dissolve. The M.F.F. makes both collections accessible on site – inviting visitors to experiment with and creatively reuse them.
In the afternoon, artist and illustrator Stefan Marx joins the programme. In an open session, he offers insights into his artistic practice and demonstrates how photocopiers can serve as tools for artistic production. The session will also feature works he developed specifically for the Grand Snail Tour collection. Used as templates, they encourage participants to create their own zines and prints.
