Urbane Künste Ruhr is a polymorphous, decentralised institution for contemporary art in the Ruhr region and has been under the artistic direction of Britta Peters since January 2018. Founded after the European Capital of Culture year Ruhr.2010, Urbane Künste Ruhr initiates projects in public spaces, exhibitions, programmes for guest artists and events, often in collaboration with local and international partners.

Along with the Ruhrtriennale, Tanzlandschaft Ruhr and ChorWerk Ruhr, Urbane Künste Ruhr is part of Kultur Ruhr GmbH, whose proprietors are the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Regional Association Ruhr and whose headquarters is located in Bochum.

Over the course of three years, the Grand Snail Tour will travel through all 53 cities in the Ruhr region. The artistic and performative journey will kick off on September 26, 2024 at the market square in Xanten.
