Eva Kot'átková

Eva Koťátková (*1982 in Prague) is a contemporary artist based in Prague, Czech Republic. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague with a Master’s degree and obtained her PhD from the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. She is the co-founder of the platform Institute of Anxiety, which creates a space for collaboration between artists, theorists and activists. In her work, she explores the forms of power, manipulation, discrimination and control exercised by institutions upon those who, for various reasons, deviate from the norm (or what is perceived as such). Through various media, she then pursues other models of functioning, communication and sharing that would allow individuals and groups to function in more liberated, equal and empathetic ways. She works with marginalised stories and emotions, often inviting children to participate.

Her work has recently been shown in the form of solo exhibitions at CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux, France (2022); the Swiss Institute in New York, U.S. (2019); the Kunsthalle Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, Denmark (2019); and the Hangar Bicocca in Milan, Italy (2018); a duo show with Rachel Harrison at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, U.S. (2018); as well as in group exhibitions including the 16th Istanbul Biennale, Turkey (2019); the 47th Rotterdam Film Festival, the Netherlands (2019) and the Documenta 15 in Kassel, Germany (2022).

My Body Is Not An Island

My Body Is Not an Island invites us to empathise with others and to learn how to use emotions as a way in to the world: Bring your emotions and your jackets too, the artist tells us.
