Iris Ward Loughran

Iris Ward Loughran is sculptor, photographer, and urbanist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Her artistic practice is initiated through investigations into place, or field research, where she takes photos, scavenges for objects, and observes. She is interested in the interaction between humans and the environment or landscape, and the opportunities for individuals to be confronted with the builders of environments, such as objects of surveillance, barriers, signs, and other obstructions. Using a sort of radical placemaking, Loughran’s practice is a pursuit of joy that invites the viewer to play in the face of these unseen architects.

From July to September 2022, Iris Ward Loughran is a resident artist in the programme Zu Gast bei Urbane Künste Ruhr in Dortmund.

Unna
