Magdalena Los

©Daniel Sadrowski

Magdalena Los (*1987) was born in Poland and grew up in Bremen. She completed her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg.

Los’ digitally collaged visual worlds emerge from a painting and conceptual practice. In them, everyday views collide with private screenshots or references to popular film scenes, works of art and current news from various departments. The alternately surreal, comic-like or naturalistic motifs repeatedly revolve around the relationship between work, time and value, with humour and seriousness always in balance. The often female figures in Los’ imaginary spaces oscillate between desire and powerlessness, illuminating the specific area between the two questions: What do I want? and What can I do?

She is currently preparing the exhibition Lucid Dreams at the artothek in Cologne (2022) and last exhibited at Bonner Kunstverein (2021). Her work has been exhibited at PiK, Cologne; Klosterruine, Berlin; Sammlung Falckenberg, Hamburg (all 2020) and Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof (2019), among others. She has been awarded the Friedrich Vordemberge Scholarship of the City of Cologne (2021) and the Peter Mertes Scholarship (2020). Magdalena Los lives and works in Cologne.

Oer-Erkenschwick

The Grand Snail Tour will be accompanied by literary, photographic and illustrative artists, who will collect impressions and reflections from the same city at the same time as the Trailer is there and put them into visual or literary form. The result is a paratext on the three-year tour, a travel chronicle in the form of a kaleidoscope of stories, connections and snapshots in the 53 cities of the region, revealing the simultaneities and non-simultaneities of the Grand Snail Tour.
