Katrin Mayer

Katrin Mayer is an artist based in Berlin and Düsseldorf. She works individually and collaboratively with a focus on site-specificity, gender, polyphony, textile and textual structures and topological notions of thought and space. For her site-specific, installation-based works, she researches local history in order to reflect on and question the historicity of a place in the present. Her work is research-intensive and she has repeatedly worked with archives, for example most recently during her research fellowship at the VALIE EXPORT Center, Linz (2023-24), which houses the artist's legacy.

In 2020/2021, she received a grant from the Berlin Artistic Research Programme, during which she researched the origins of the internet and coding. Together with Anna Cairns, she developed the ongoing publishing platform www.c0da.org.

Projects

Oer-Erkenschwick

The Grand Snail Tour will be accompanied by literary, photographic and illustrative artists, who will collect impressions and reflections from the same city at the same time as the Trailer is there and put them into visual or literary form. The result is a paratext on the three-year tour, a travel chronicle in the form of a kaleidoscope of stories, connections and snapshots in the 53 cities of the region, revealing the simultaneities and non-simultaneities of the Grand Snail Tour.
