Jochen Lempert (*1958) studied biology. Between 1979 and 1989, he was a member of the experimental film group Schmelzdahin, which explored the combination of chemical processes and celluloid film. After this fruitful collaboration, he began to work photographically and has been researching the dialog between nature and man since the 1990s. He has received numerous awards for his photographic work, including the Scholarship for Contemporary German Photography from the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation (1993) and the Camera Austria Prize for Contemporary Photography (2017). Jochen Lempert has exhibited at the Museum Ludwig Cologne (2010), the Hamburger Kunsthalle (2013), the Sprengel Museum Hannover (2017), the Centre d'art contemporain d'Ivry - le Crédac and the Contemporary Art Center, Vilnius (both 2020) and Portikus, Frankfurt/Main (2022), among others.

The Grand Snail Tour will be accompanied by literary, photographic and illustrative artists, who will collect impressions and reflections from the same city at the same time as the Trailer is there and put them into visual or literary form. The result is a paratext on the three-year tour, a travel chronicle in the form of a kaleidoscope of stories, connections and snapshots in the 53 cities of the region, revealing the simultaneities and non-simultaneities of the Grand Snail Tour.
