Urbane Künste Ruhr makes art that changes the city space.
The projects of Urbane Künste Ruhr take place all over the Ruhr District; they confront people with new possibilities for looking at and using the visible and hidden locations in urban life.
The expansion of art’s action radius into the city itself provides new ways to become involved and to initiate social and aesthetic change.
Katja Aßmann, artistic director:
“The projects of Urbane Künste Ruhr stand for the multitude of urban realities and for art’s potential to bring new perspectives into the discussion over the future of our society and the cities we live in. The Ruhr District is Urbane Künste Ruhr’s field of activity; urgent questions serve as a source of inspiration for artists, architects, and city activists.”
Along with the Ruhrtriennale, Tanzlandschaft Ruhr, and ChorWerk Ruhr, Urbane Künste Ruhr is a part of Kultur Ruhr GmbH administered by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Regionalverband Ruhr.
